Sometime Sunday afternoon the Bureau of Reclamation will shut the valves on the Deadwood Reservoir. This signals the end of the 2009 whitewater season on the Deadwood, and South Fork Payette. There will still be apx. 500 cfs of natural flow which by all means is runable in the Canyon, Swirly, the Scenic and Staircase. Runable, but perhaps not pleasurable.
The North Fork will continue to be ramped down apx. 80 cfs a day as well. August started with a good whitewater flow of 2000 cfs its had an irregular ramp with a couple drops of 100 cfs and then in the last few days a constant ramp of apx. 80 cfs. North flows flows if anything like last year will continue to ramp down about 80 cfs a day. Leaving you with a fall flow of about 550 by the end of Sept. Of course, the Main Payette will reflect the dropping flows and should be be flowing about 1200 cfs by the end of September.
The good ne
ws, if any, is Bikini Beach has come out for the first time this summer. Just the beach however.
